First of all I want to thank everybody for leaving such nice comments. I didn't really know if starting over on SBS-quilt was a good thing to do but your comments made me really feel that I did the right thing.
Okay this is not really about quilting but is something I thought writing about. My Husband and I moved to a house in November of last year. We starting thinking about changes we could make in our household to make a difference. Something we were worried about was that too many big changes all at once would mean we would stop half way through and also money needed to make all the changes was a big factor. So we made a new years resolution to make a small change every month.
January we decided that we would cut down the food we throw away. Plan meals better. I read in my Country Living Magazine this month that in the UK of every 3 grocery bags with food that are bought one bag of food gets thrown away. If everybody would stop waisting food it would be equivalent to taking 1 of every 5 cars of the road in the UK.
February we looked in our whole house at all the batteries and things we have. We then bought enough rechargeable batteries for our household.
This month we bought a system of different bins at Ikea to have in our garage to sort out all our recycable garbage. We used to do this but we now made it more organized and made more routines. I have a place to put it all now in the kitchen and every morning my husband sorts it in the garage. We will start making more regular trips to the recycling station. We are also going to get a specialist to have a look at our boiler and heating-system and make sure that it doesn't use more energy then it needs too.
Next month we are going to make a compost behind the house and share it with a neighbor. The month after that we might change all our lightbulps.
Okay...but back to not waisting any food. Here is a small recipe. We had tacos one night and you might have a lot of leftovers from that as well as we have. So here is a tip:
I mixed all the meat and vegetables together with some tacosaus (except the cucumber) and the leftover cheese and creme-fraiche together. I made a standard pizza dough. You can even buy one ready or go to your pizzaplace nearby and ask for some. Put the meat on the dough and put the cheese on top and ...tada!
Well...making new food of leftovers doesn't just help the environment but your wallet and saves you time as well. I hope to add some more recipes to the blog ...some day..
Dat hoop ik ook, want dit ziet er heerlijk uit!
Goed idee, die maandelijkse verbeteringen!
